      Thursday, 29 March 2018, LONDON - The 2016 Trump and Cruz presidential campaigns as well as to a greater acknowledged extent by inside sources including participants in other GOP candidates' U.S. campaigns back to 2014 including on-site for Colorado and Oregon Republican candidates and the winning campaign of North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis for three months with a foreign "SCL consultancy team" in North Carolina all in violation of U.S. election laws used non-American citizen workers mostly Canadians, Britons, and other Europeans including some provided with fraudulent immigration documents as part of Cambridge Analytica / SCL Group's "Project Ripon" untruthfully indicating they would not be working on U.S. political campaigns which would be in violation of U.S. electoral law.
       Even having been expressly so warned against this illegality in a 2014 letter from New York legal counsel Laurence Levy to Cambridge Analytica's then current leadership President Rebekah Mercer, Vice President Stephen K. Bannon and chief executive (now "on leave" or fired) Alexander Nix but attempted to be obscured through the Delaware incorporation of Cambridge Analytica by Bannon and the wealthy Mercers made it look like an "American brand" through this convoluted shell company named by Bannon funded by the wealthy Mercer family and incorporated in the U.S. as noted intentionally to obscure the truth of the illegality that Cambridge Analytica was in reality essentially completely serviced by and its substantive work performed by the London-based SCL Group elections division through the use of this fraudulent corporate device to use non-U.S. citizen campaign workers to work unlawfully on U.S. GOP campaigns.

(begin excerpt)     Building an exceptional access system is a complicated engineering problem with many parts that all have to work perfectly in order for it to be secure, and no one has a solution to it,” said Susan Landau, a Tufts University computer security professor. “Any of the options people are talking about now would heighten the danger that your phone or your laptop could be hacked and data taken off of it.”

Craig Federighi, the senior vice president of software engineering at Apple, stressed the importance of strengthening — not weakening — security protections for products like the iPhone, saying threats to data security were increasing every day and arguing that it was a question of “security versus security” rather than security versus privacy.
“Proposals that involve giving the keys to customers’ device data to anyone but the customer inject new and dangerous weaknesses into product security,” he said in a statement. “Weakening security makes no sense when you consider that customers rely on our products to keep their personal information safe, run their businesses or even manage vital infrastructure like power grids and transportation systems.”
But some computer security researchers believe the problem might be solvable with an acceptable level of new risks.
A National Academy of Sciences committee completed an 18-month study of the encryption debate, publishing a report last month. While it largely described challenges to solving the problem, one section cited presentations by several technologists who are developing potential approaches.
They included Ray Ozzie, a former chief software architect at Microsoft; Stefan Savage, a computer science professor at the University of California, San Diego; and Ernie Brickell, a former chief security officer at Intel.

According to several people familiar with the new round of deliberations, those three men have been participating in a series of workshops convened at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by Daniel Weitzner, a computer science professor. They have discussed their research with government officials, including Valerie Cofield, a senior F.B.I. science and technology official working on “going dark” issues.
The researchers, Mr. Ozzie said, recognized that “this issue is not going away,” and were trying to foster “constructive dialogue” rather than declaring that no solution is possible.  (end excerpt)

 More Than 100 Former Ambassadors Write Letter Opposing Gina Haspel Nomination
The 109 retired and former U.S. ambassadors sent the Senate a letter on 9 May 2018 saying in part that Gina Haspel is "emblematic of choices made by certain American officials that "dispensed with our ideals and international commitments to the "ultimate detriment of our national security."They went on that "[w]hat we do know, based on credible, and as yet uncontested reporting, leaves us of the view that [Ms. Haskel] should be disqualified from holding cabinet rank." Moreover they continued to write that Haspel's connection to torture will be welcomed by authoritarian leaders worldwide, "as it will allow them to proclaim, however cynically, that their behavior is no different from ours." Likewise a retired Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine Corps General and 60 retired Generals and Admirals wrote a letter opposing Haspel which letter is referenced in more detail with citations below.

 Senator John McCain (R-AZ) Chair Of Armed Services Committee Urges Senators Reject Haspel  Senator McCain is suffering from terminal brain cancer but as he was undecided about Haspel he did send 'Bloody Gina' a letter in advance of her hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee on her nomination by President Trump to be Director of the CIA. Senator McCain is the only senator who has himself actually been tortured having been subjected to torture during the Vietnam conflict after being shot down on a bombing mission and held over a five-and-a-half-year period by hostile North Vietnamese captors.  
After whatever response Senator McCain received or prompted from 'Bloody Gina' Haspel by his letter he also was familiar with her hearing(s) before the Intelligence Committee during which she repeatedly refused to answer senators' questions as to whether she believed the brutal "enhanced interrogation techniques"(torture) such as at the Thai CIA Black Site of which she was in charge and at times immediately present for torture were "immoral."
In his statement linked to in the article here directly below urging his senate colleagues to reject Haspel's nomination, although calling Haspel a patriot he wrote "Ms. Haspel's role in overseeing the use of torture by Americans is disturbing. Her refusal to acknowledge torture's immorality is disqualifying." (It is also worth noting that since Senator McCain wrote his statement Ms. Haspel's confusing account as to how she came to write a cable believing another party would decide whether to send it directing against orders the destruction of CIA video evidence of torture which Ms. Haspel very strongly wanted to destroy, that the other party since has contradicted Haspel's account of the circumstances of the resulting destruction of evidence directly against orders.)

'Bloody Gina' Haspel before the hearing until convinced otherwise "sought to withdraw over questions about her role in [an] agency interrogation program," including "to avoid discussing in a public setting her role in the agency's enhanced interrogation program, which many have likened to torture." (The Senate Torture Report as the name suggests HAS FOUND that the CIA interrogation program WAS torture, apart from the Washington Post misleading that some have "likened it to torture" in the article linked to directly below, coincidence or not journalists long have called for the Washington Post as a matter of journalistic integrity to disclose before each article about the CIA that the sole owner of the newspaper Jeff Bezos also has had hundreds of millions of dollars worth of annual contracts with the CIA for information storage which Mr. Bezos has chosen not to disclose with CIA articles.)
Some members of the Senate Intelligence Committee are opposed to Haspel's confirmation as CIA director "particularly over her role in the interrogation program implemented after Sept. 11, 2001, and for refusing to declassify documents related to her tenure at agency." A detainee was waterboarded 183 times during a period of torture when "Bloody Gina" was present until the completely inexperienced CIA torturers thought he was dead as well with waterboarding also being inflicted on a detainee before "Bloody Gina's" arrival at the Thai CIA Torture Black Site during all of which Haspel was in the senior leadership position in the torture program. Despite being ordered later not to destroy any videotape evidence of the CIA's interrogation program once it was created Haspel nevertheless drafted an order to destroy all the videotape evidence as, to which she later came up with a dubious convoluted story that "she did not think the order would be cabled" unless otherwise ordered.
"But Haspel was a strong advocate within the agency for destroying the tapes, believing that were they to become public and reveal the identity of CIA interrogators [war criminals such as herself committing crimes against humanity] they could face reprisals from terrorists." Others present have said that is why the CIA torturers wore hoods. In any case it is fair to say that "Bloody Gina" Haspel has a lot she wants to keep secret almost twenty years later both from the Senate and the American people. Who although not exactly sure of what war crimes and crimes against humanity she may have committed in the CIA that must be even worse than those already known from the Senate Torture Report and other sources which acts get hard to imagine, that the People's representatives will accept "Bloody Gina's" promises tomorrow that she will not do whatever that was again but will behave herself lawfully as CIA Director and see that the rest of the CIA does the same. 
And despite her claims as to why she drafted the cable ordering the destruction of the videotape evidence, she likely has been relieved if the CIA wearing of the hoods was in fact the truth anyway, because if what "Bloody Gina' said was right those vengeful terrorists may have very long memories on the matter as interviews with many CIA tortured innocents in The New York Times suggests the often permanent damage the CIA inflicted on their bodies and minds all to learn nothing valuable at all is not easily forgotten and likely reason enough to become a terrorist if one were not previously, and well now they can just look at the computer, newspaper or tv and there she is for all to see. Lucky for her that as one who is wanted in the World Criminal Court as a war criminal and for crimes against humanity "Bloody Gina" Haspel probably greatly prefers to stay within the relative safety of the homeland, as it were.

President Trump on Tuesday nominated CIA veteran war criminal Gina Haspel to be the spy agency’s next director, tapping a woman who spent multiple tours overseas and is respected by the workforce but is deeply tied to the agency’s use of brutal interrogation measures on terrorism suspects in crimes against humanity. I mean how could you trust somebody who did that to be the head of the CIA."                                                                               -Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said he will oppose her nomination. 

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) the most familiar member of Congress with torture as he was subjected to years of torture as a North Vietnamese prisoner-of-war had submitted a letter of questions to war criminal Haspel as referred to above. McCain was undecided as was Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) former chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee as to whether each would oppose war criminal Haspel's nomination to be Director of the CIA although Senator McCain has since as reported above since the nomination hearing urged his fellow senators to reject Haspel for CIA Director.
                                                                                                                                                                    "Her experience may have served her well as deputy, but the top position is another matter entirely."      -Senator Dianne Feinstein who has asked that all of the 2014 Senate Troture Report related to Haspell's role in torture be declassified.  Senator McCain has requested that the remainder of the 2014 Senate Torture Report be declassified.                  
Senator Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) the Intelligence Committee's vice chairman, told Haspel in a letter this week that her recalcitrance was "unacceptable."

War criminal Gina Haspel was a central figure in one of the most illegal and shameful chapters in modern American history. She was up to her eyeballs in torture: both in running a secret torture prison in Thailand, and carrying out an order to cover up torture crimes by destroying videotapes.
The CIA must declassify and release every aspect of Haspel's torture record before considering the nomination.
