Trump to Miners, Loggers and Drillers: This Land Is Your Land

From Alaska’s Tongass National Forest to Minnesota’s Boundary Waters, the Trump administration wants to despoil, not preserve, America’s resources.

The tug-of-war over America’s public lands between those who would protect them for future generations and those who would exploit them for immediate commercial gain has a long history. The two Roosevelts, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were mostly sympathetic to the cause of conservation, Ronald Reagan and the second George Bush decidedly less so. But for sheer hostility to environmental values, Donald Trump has no equal. Mr. Trump arrived in the White House with little interest in conservation, his idea of nature framed largely by his golf courses. He was, to boot, almost pathologically dedicated to obliterating anything President Obama had done to reduce global warming gases, preserve open space and help endangered species. This translated into a simple operating strategy: Get rid of things the fossil fuel industry didn’t like  and rubber-stamp the stuff it wanted. Hence the rollback of Obama rules limiting power plant emissions of greenhouse gases, and the proposed rollback of regulations governing methane, a powerful global warming gas. (Next up, it seems certain, is the reversal of Obama rules mandating more fuel-efficient vehicles.)

Hence also the gifts over the last two years to mining and oil and gas interests of vast areas previously shielded from exploration — two national monuments in Utah, millions of acres reserved for the threatened sage grouse, much of the outer continental shelf and the long-protected coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

That’s not all. In the shadow of these big ticket items, Mr. Trump has presided over several less visible travesties. We offer three. One is his push to open the Tongass National Forest in Alaska to logging. The others are his efforts to revive two potentially destructive mining projects — one near Alaska’s Bristol Bay, the other near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota.

In all three cases, Mr. Trump has breathed new life into bad ideas thought to be dead and buried or getting there. Together they demonstrate again how Mr. Trump, when faced with a choice between commerce and conservation, reflexively sides with the former, even when the economic case for conservation is strong. . . .

BREAKING NEWS: Legalization Of Recreational And All Marijuana In Alaska, Nation's Capital District Of Columbia, And Oregon Urged By Entire New York Times Editorial Board

       Monday, 6 October 2014, NEW YORK, NEW YORK - In another significant blow to vicious international criminal organizations that have flourished and gone on to spread harder drugs, forced whole countries into needless tragedies of mass violence, facilitated a proliferation of deadly weapons and criminal behavior to all points of the globe, corrupted whole governments and the world's financial institutions and law enforcement agencies at every level, funded terror organizations that have taken what was a phony "war" into very real wars funded globally destabilizing countries and terrorizing whole populations worldwide, put untold millions of persons behind bars for non-violent conduct often with racially disgraceful prison terms either effectively or by operation of highly questionable operation of law in misguided mandatory prison terms leaving any sentencing discretion in the hands of the vulgar abuses of prosecutors rather than the courts, reeked havoc on the United States Constitution's most fundamental rights once protecting citizens from unwarranted invasions of privacy, searches and seizures without legally sufficient cause, turned all law enforcement actions into unnecessarily violent and characteristically unnecessarily military-style raids by overpowering force against citizens on the streets, in their cars, and even into the once-sanctity of their homes often causing lifelong trauma for citizens in all walks of life who law enforcement seem long ago in this country completely to have forgotten are innocent until proven guilty and often diverting much-needed law enforcement resources from crimes against others of real concern to the American people, propelled the Courts into tortured interpretations and disparaging distortions and destruction of the Constitution (just because the word "drugs" appears in prosecutions and now untold judicial opinions which by the Courts' own reasoning one day now with a keystroke can be changed in a moment from "drugs" to "unauthorized" or "threatening papers" or whatever the State may choose) and caused so much other needless thoughtless harm and suffering it would take volumes to recount along with the huge amount of vital tax, monetary, human and other precious resources that have been completely needlessly diverted that the members of the editorial board of the Ninth Amendment a quarter of a century ago had the opportunity to and did predict these very results to some of the United States' and Great Britain's present and future leading legal minds (at the same time that The Economist's cover editorial called unequivocally for the decriminalization of all drugs) that were perfectly obvious even from another quarter century earlier with the introduction for totally unrelated politically expedient reasons by the disgraced Republican criminal resigned former President Richard M. Nixon and his administration with the introduction of its characteristically totally phony "War on Drugs" now the entire editorial board of the New York Times in its issue of this date now being printed finally calls for what it states is supported by the fact that "a majority of Americans favor legalization" of marijuana thus the Times in all three jurisdictions Alaska, the Nation's Capital the District of Columbia, and Oregon in the United States where the issue is on next month's ballot noting that marijuana is "far less harmful than alcohol" calls for citizens wholesale rejection of the prohibition of pot by what the Times calls a "misguided federal ban". Moron Sarah Palin Republican Icon Of Refined Intellect And Tea Party Pinnacle Of Class Along With Family Booted By Homeowners From Anchorage Snowmobilers' Gathering Upon Police Arrival After Starting Violent Brawl Leave In Stretch Hummer Making "Vulgar Gesture" And With Palin "Unleashing Rounds Of Porofanities"

       Sunday, 14 September 2014, ANCHORAGE, AL - The wave of publicly exposed GOP criminal conduct which appears to be sweeping Republican public figures nationwide reportedly may have turned violent and spread from the "outside" lower forty-eight and up to inside the "Last Frontier" where the Sarah Palin clan apparently was at the epicenter of an Anchorage private party brawl which allegedly began after Republican moron Sarah Palin's son Track Palin attacked a former boyfriend of moron Sarah Palin's daughter Willow. Former losing GOP Vice-Presidential John McCain running mate and former GOP Alaska Governor moron Sarah Palin's snowmobiler husband celebrating his birthday reportedly also joined the Palin-incited brawl along with other members of the Palin clain including daughter Bristol Palin. She too had begun throwing punches at the homeowner hosting the gathering when Anchorage Police arrived at the scene.

       Although no arrests were made at the scene of the Palin-incited melee Anchorage Police said the local prosecutor may still independently decide to press charges. The hosts of the snowmachiners' (Alaska speak for snowmobiles) as well as construction workers and other "longtime Alaskans" gathering ordered the violent Palin brawling family to leave the party. They then did so in their stretch Hummer limousine while son Track Palin made a vulgar gesture with GOP moron Sarah Palin also "unleashing rounds of profanities" back at the remaining gathering. The police reported that alcohol was believed to be involved in the incident. 

       Meanwhile it is not known if the incident will harm Republican moron Sarah Palin's chances of again running for Vice President should he not be imprisoned and decide to run again despite the debacle of his last campaign beside Republican lane-duck federally indicted Texas Idiot Governor Rick "Payback" Perry. Perry was last known currently to be out of the country. Although he has killed at least one coyote "in defense of himself or his dog" with his laser-sighted six-shooter federally indicted on public corruption charges Perry facing a 99 year sentence has not yet otherwise been reported to have exhibited violent social tendencies in public gatherings.
