Embassy spying on in addition to the Bay Area including Silicon Valley, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, trans-Pacific seabed cable crossings, mapping underground civilian and military communications infrastructure, engaging in GPS pinpointing, communicating with Russia treaty overflights to avoid U.S. signals decryption, tracking the Pacific Fleet of U.S. nuclear submarines out of Washington state and many other assumed and suspected espionage activities also was believed to be the Russian intelligence hub for the western United States and possibly even the western hemisphere.
