On the Senate side the normally reserved Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) Vice-Chair Senate Intelligence Committee was moved to make an extraordinary impassioned speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday, 20 December 2017 expressly warning Trump not to attempt to fire nor impede Special Counsel Robert Mueller in the Trump-Russia investigation particularly responding to (denied) rumors that Trump may attempt to do so while Congress is in recess expected to begin at the end of this week with a growing chorus of members of both parties in Congress saying they would return to Washington in such a circumstance largely assuming like other Washington insiders that the People "would take to the streets."
Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) Chair Senate Foreign Relations Committee expressly addressed a direct warning by television to President Trump that any such action against the Mueller Trump-Russia investigation by Trump would be "beyond the pale" and expressly predicted there would be an "uprising and revolt" should Trump attempt to make such a move which Corker said "would not be tolerated" further stating that by saying this on television Corker was reiterating to President Trump that this would be a "totally unacceptable move" which television comments interested readers can find in the link to the video clip of Senator Corker directly below.
UPDATE to 3 January 2018 Special Counsel Mueller is reported already to have an extensive store of potentially incriminating evidence about Trump team activities as to which Mueller has made the Trump team aware enough to discourage them from spending time considering firing Mueller as well as perhaps even discouraging Trump counsel from participating in any Trump administration orchestration of the smear campaign against Mueller and other federal justice and law enforcement officials.
